The Late BISHOP HAROLD B. DAWSON, JR.

Bishop Harold B. Dawson, Jr. was born in Peoria, IL on August 5, 1970. This was the same year that his parents, Harold Sr. and Mattie Dawson, organized and established New Hope Deliverance Church. This would be the place where he would receive his spiritual foundation. Thirty-one years later, in June 2001, Bishop Dawson, Jr., by then a licensed and ordained minister, was installed as Pastor of New Hope International Ministries where he served as senior pastor for 11 years.  In July of 2012, God led Bishop Dawson, Jr. to organize and found New Life Christian Church (N.L.C.C.) in Peoria, IL.  God used Bishop Dawson, Jr. to breathe “new life” into a region that very definitely still has the hand of God upon it!  He worked diligently in the service of the Lord with his wife, Lady Lori Dawson. Bishop Dawson utilized the innate spiritual impartations of the prophetic from his mother and the apostolic from his father to create an explosive mix that allowed New Life to not only be a growing, but thriving congregation.

Bishop Dawson always exhibited a true commitment to his community. He served on Morehouse School of Medicine’s Imani Project Board (Atlanta, GA) which was organized to bring positive change in the area of HIV/AIDS in the African-American community. He also served on the Board of Directors for the Peoria Chapter of the NAACP, PMEDO (Peoria Ministers Economic Development Organization), Catholic Charities PCAP (Peoria Community Area Project), Illinois One Family One Child Board of Directors, along with several other community commitments. In 2010, Bishop Dawson was appointed President of the Peoria Christian Leadership Council (P.C.L.C.). Comprised of a collaboration of pastors, the P.C.L.C. was established to address the social-economic and political concerns within the Central Illinois region, with the goal of bettering the community. He also served as a Commissioner on the Board of the Wayne A. Downing Metropolitan Airport Authority.

Bishop Dawson matriculated through Jackson State University, earning a Bachelor of Administration in Marketing. He attended the distinguished Harvard Divinity School for the Summer Leadership Institute in 2004. In pursuit of his goal of being a lifelong learner, Bishop Dawson studied at Lincoln Christian Seminary in Lincoln, IL, and also acquired a Masters in Divinity at Virginia Union University | Samuel Dewitt Proctor School of Theology.

Bishop Dawson resided in Peoria, IL with his wife Lori and their three children Harold III, Haven and Harrington.

Bishop Harold B. Dawson, Jr.’s gift of ministry has been heard not only across the U.S. but also across the nation of South Africa and the Caribbean.  He was definitely an anointed man of God for this generation, whose gift crossed denominational, cultural, socioeconomic and spiritual boundaries.
